Tremor was one of the most sustainable festivals of 2023 - a distinction made by the AGF.

The AGF (A Greener Future) Greener Festival Certification is the first global sustainability standard for live events, focussing on festivals that reduce waste, emissions and promote equality and biodiversity. In addition to Tremor, festivals such as We Love Green, Boom, Boomtown Fair, Dockyard, Northside and OyaFestivalen have also obtained certification for 2023. This involves a detailed assessment based on 11 themes, such as local ecosystems, travel, food, energy, waste and governance, including self-assessment, site visits and presentation of post-event data for an independent audit by AGF.

The call for applications for Creative Europe support opened on December 11. The call closes on May 13th.

The call for proposals for European Cooperation Projects, the Creative Europe program that co-finances projects in the cultural and creative sector, opened today, December 11, and will remain open until May 13 of next year.

### Information about the program

Projects must be designed and implemented by a consortium made up of at least three entities from three participating countries ([see list here](https://www.europacriativa.eu/recursos/paises-participantes)) and have a maximum duration of 4 years. 

#### Project size

This time, the call for proposals is open for all three scales:
- **Small** (at least three organizations from three different countries; up to €200,000 per project / 80% co-financing); 

- **Medium** (from five organizations from five different countries; up to 1 million euros per project / 70% co-financing);

- **Large** (at least 10 organizations from ten different countries; up to 2 million euros per project / 60% co-financing).

#### Priorities

It has also been defined that the projects must respond to the 'global' priorities defined by the European Commission, namely environmental sustainability, inclusion and gender equality, digital transition and international relations - a difference from the previous system which indicated specific priorities in each call.

#### European objectives

Projects must choose to contribute to one of two objectives: **transnational creation and circulation** - which seeks to _strengthen the transnational creation and circulation of European works and artists_; or **innovation** - if the aim of the project is to _increase the capacity of the European cultural and creative sectors to nurture talent, innovate, prosper and generate jobs and growth._

#### Who can apply?

This competition is open to public and private legal entities, whether profit-making or not; and individual entrepreneurs who are active in the cultural and creative sector and have their legal headquarters in one of the 40 countries participating in the program.

European Cooperation Projects - Open Call 2025

Everything you need to know about the upcoming DGArtes contest.

The details of the upcoming DGArtes project support program have already been announced, specifically in the areas of Creation and Publishing, Visual Arts, Music and Opera, Programming, and Internationalization, which opens on January 15.

To facilitate the understanding of these support programs, we have compiled a guide with key information:

#### Recipients

This competition is open to:

→ Private legal entities headquartered in Portugal;

→ Individuals with tax residency in Portugal;

→ Informal groups, provided they appoint a representative who is either an individual or a legal entity with tax residency or headquarters in Portugal, predominantly engaged in professional activities in one or more of the specified areas.


#### Supported Artistic Fields
**Creation and Publishing:** Projects focused on the creation of new artistic works and publications.

**Visual Arts:** Includes projects in painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation, and performance.

**Music and Opera:** Supports the creation, production, and presentation of concerts, operas, festivals, and musical cycles.

**Programming:** Aims to support seasons, cycles, and festivals across different artistic areas, promoting the diversity of cultural offerings.

**Internationalization:** Focused on the circulation of artists and works in an international context, as well as transnational cooperation.


#### Strategic Objectives
Entities must identify alignment with one of the following objectives:

**Creation and Publishing, Visual Arts, Music and Opera, Programming:**

→ Promote the relationship of artists with:
1. the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (RPAC) [specific to the Visual Arts program]
2. the Portuguese Theatre and Cinema-Theatre Network (RTCP)
3. and/or other venues under the Ministry of Culture or other public institutions [excludes the Programming competition];

→ Promote artistic activity as a space for reflection, interaction, and critical debate on contemporary issues, fostering innovation and civic participation;

→ Encourage the inclusion of students or professionals who have completed, within the last 3 years, training in the cultural field.

**Internationalization:**

→ Stimulate the internationalization of Portuguese arts and culture in Spain or the countries of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries - CPLP;

→ Stimulate the internationalization of Portuguese arts and culture in **Latin American** countries and within the following events:

- Japan – Expo Osaka Kansai;
- 160th Anniversary of relations between Portugal and Mexico;
- 50th Anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Portugal and India;
- 50th Anniversary of relations between Portugal and Malaysia and between Portugal and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam;
- 50 years of relations between Portugal and Algeria;
- 50 years of the reestablishment of relations between Portugal and Egypt.

#### Public Interest Objectives
Entities must identify alignment with **two** of the following objectives:

**Creation and Publishing, Visual Arts, Music and Opera, Programming:**

→ Stimulate the internationalization of Portuguese arts and culture through cooperation with other countries, promoting the international projection of Portuguese playwrights, composers, choreographers, and visual artists;
- specific and mandatory for the Internationalization program

→ Contribute to the diversity and quality of artistic offerings across the national territory;
- excludes the Internationalization program

→ Promote the participation and engagement of communities and audiences in various fields of artistic activity;
- excludes the Visual Arts and Internationalization programs

→ Encourage emerging and dynamic projects within the sector;
- excludes the Internationalization program

→ Enhance the educational dimension and raise cultural awareness through best practices in audience mediation;
- specific to the Programming program

→ Foster environmental sustainability and the adoption of good ecological practices in artistic fields;

→ Stimulate digital transition in artistic domains;

→ Value artistic research and experimentation as innovative practices in development and knowledge;

→ Promote the diversity and qualification of arts professionals;
- specific to the Internationalization program

→ Promote ethnic and cultural diversity, social inclusion, gender equality, citizenship, and the quality of life of populations;

→ Enhance physical, social, and intellectual accessibility for all professionals involved in artistic projects;
- specific to the Visual Arts and Internationalization programs

#### Funding and Duration
**Creation and Publishing, Visual Arts, Music and Opera, and Programming:** For each category, the maximum amount is 55.000 euros.

**Internationalization:**
Maximum requested amounts:
→ 15.000 euros for the subdomain _Development and international circulation of works and projects_;
→ 7.500 euros for the subdomains _Exchange actions and hosting of promoters in a specific context_ and _Promotion of integration into international networks_.

#### Execution Period
Common to all programs, projects must be carried out between July 2025 and December 2026.

Barcelos hosted the third edition of Barlos, a festival that fosters new dialogues between local craftsmanship and contemporary art.

The third edition of Barlos took place on September 28th, once again transforming Barcelos into the vibrant setting for an event that aims to establish fresh dialogues between local crafts and contemporary artistic expressions.

On the musical side, concerts by Maria Reis and xauxaudodô filled Largo Dr. Martins de Lima with captivating sounds, while Barlos FM radio—a series of programs selected through an open call—resonated through Barlos shopping center's corridors. In the realm of visual arts, an exhibition by Juliana Julieta, curated by Paula Pinto, was creatively spread across Barlos' shop windows and the former Espaço Cultura concert hall.

In addition to these artistic showcases, the festival invited the public to participate in workshops led by local potters, allowing them to engage directly with traditional craftsmanship. These efforts were part of a broader mission to strengthen and modernize the ties between history, place, and community - one that will undoubtedly continue to evolve in the years to come.

TAU! was one of the official drinks at the first edition of Clube de Rua - an event that crossed the portuguese city of Esposende almost from end to end.

On Saturday 6th July, Rua da Srª da Saúde in Esposende was activated with a variety of artistic interventions and activities that livened up the street.

The first edition of Clube de Rua was born out of the desire to celebrate the city's streets with its people, neighbours and stories. This first edition featured a programme packed with music, exhibitions, workshops and an art market. It took place between 10am and midnight on the first Saturday of July.

This event, organised by NICE Esposende and Cardume, with co-production by the Municipality of Esposende, featured A Kombucha and TAU! as the official drinks.

Senhora Presidenta hosted the official launch of the new TAU! wine with the special collaboration of Rita Laranja

The official launch of the latest edition of TAU! took place on the 24th of May at Senhora Presidenta, in Porto. The launch was accompanied by an exhibition by Rita Laranja - an artist who collaborated on the most recent edition of TAU! - with an artwork that seeks to bring the construction of this label's image into the gallery space.

This second TAU! once again originates, as is the brand's signature, from small-scale production and great care. Vinified in 2022 with grapes from old vines of the Arinto variety, the wine underwent an 11-month ageing process in stainless steel vats and in used French oak barrels on fine lees. 

With each new edition of this Barcelos' wine, a different artist is responsible for creating the TAU! image. This time, we invited artist and designer Rita Laranja, who was inspired by the characteristic colours of Minho's landscape to create the image for the label. She used linocut, a manual printing technique, to create an image that evokes the region in the north of the country where the wine was produced. It is precisely this composition that came to life in Senhora Presidenta's exhibition space, where it was possible to learn about the process of developing the label that presents the new TAU wine!

Rita Laranja is a multidisciplinary designer based in Porto. She fluctuates between working in digital and physical media, trying to break down the barriers between the two. Fascinated by various types of manual printing techniques, most of her personal work materialises in relief prints created through the long process of linocutting or woodcutting.

The latest edition of TAU! was the wine chosen to be served at the opening of the exhibition Canhoto _As_ Zordo, which opened on May 22 at Kindred Spirit in Lisbon. 

Canhoto _As_ Zordo showed works by artists Nuno Sousa Vieira and Tamara Arroyo, and wass curated by Virginia Torrente and Sérgio Fazenda Rodrigues.

Banda Musical de Oliveira is embarking on a project to create an original repertoire inspired by the Camino de Santiago.

Banda Musical de Oliveira (BMO) is one of the oldest philharmonic bands in Portugal and the only active one in the municipality of Barcelos. Founded in 1782, it has been honored multiple times for its cultural and educational contributions to the community. Continuing its prolific legacy, the BMO is launching the "Ecos do Caminho [Echoes of the Camino] - A Musical Journey Along the Camino de Santiago" project, which aims to create an original repertoire inspired by the tangible and intangible heritage of the Camino de Santiago.

Throughout its 240 years of activity, BMO has sustained itself through voluntary associations and occasional municipal support. Through its music school, it provides training to many young people, some of whom have gone on to successful international careers. "Ecos do Caminho" is part of a broader professionalization effort that BMO is undertaking to strengthen the institution’s sustainability and enhance the quality of its artistic offerings. This includes promoting new compositions by national composers and incorporating professionals with higher education into its ranks.

This project was selected under the Project Support Programme - Music and Opera, promoted by DGArtes [Portuguese Arts Council] in 2024, and it began at the end of last year.

A Banda Musical de Oliveira inicia um projeto de criação de repertório original inspirado nos Caminhos de Santiago.

TAU! is a Vinho Verde that bridges two distinct realms - oenology and art - unlocking new possibilities for artistic creation within the wine production process.


TAU! is a joint creation between Couto-Mixto and Filipe Lemos, winemaker at Quinta da Pegadinha, where this wine was born. A project that creates a bridge between two distinct spheres - oenology and art - opening up new possibilities for creative integration during the wine production process.

**Enology**: These are small-scale local productions in which vines and grapes have been carefully selected and manipulated. Grapes from different vineyards, grape varieties and batches are used every year, resulting in different flavours - the opposite of what happens with classic wines. However, the consumer will always be guaranteed the very fine quality that characterises every edition of TAU!

**Art: Each edition of TAU! sees a new collaboration with an artist who incorporates their creative ideas into the process of conceptualising the final wine.

Implementation and management of the Lá da Lama vineyard

Lá da Lama project began in 2008, at the height of the economic crisis. Jorge Picas de Carvalho, a potter from Barcelos and father of Couto-Mixto co-founder Jorge 'Cientista' Carvalho, was faced with a lack of orders and found himself forced to consider alternative paths for his work.

Wine production was already a family tradition - wine, produced exclusively for home use. In fact, the land where it was grown had originally been purchased by its ancestors due to the high quality of wine it produced. With the crisis came an opportunity to formalize the wine production, and the family decided to plant a vineyard on the approximately 5000m² surrounding their home. This vineyard features the vinhão, borraçal, padeiro de basto, espadeiro, and doçal grape varieties, with doçal being a noble grape of the Lima region.

In 2014, they submitted their first application to the VITIS program, although the vineyard itself was not planted until 2016. Jorge and his father, joined by family and friends, took on the planting - a demanding yet rewarding task, especially for those undertaking this type of work for the first time and without a tractor!

From the start, they aspired to cultivate the vineyard organically (and even biodynamically!), a goal that is now within reach: the Lá da Lama vineyard’s conversion process is expected to be completed by 2025. The first wine, an organic red verde, will be launched on the market by the end of this year.
